With the Research Explorer Ruhr program, the interdisciplinary graduate school at the Ruhr University Bochum offers scholarships for recent PhDs to explore postdoc opportunities from September 28th until October 9th, 2015. The Mercator Research Group 2 is happy to take part in the programm and to be host for two PhDs from South America.

The First World War is widely regarded as having sparked technological innovations. The relationship man – machine changed drastically. Two PhD students from the Mercator Research Group "Spaces of Anthropological Knowledge" have researched in what way those changes were reflected in literature.

AG2 welcomes new PhD student

In January Michael Navratil joined the AG2 of the Mercator Research Group as doctoral student. In his project Michael investigates the uses of ‘psychology’ as a specifically poetological category in medical, philosophical and literary-theoretical texts of the time. Building on these premises, it offers interpretations of a selection of literary texts (by Arthur Schnitzler and others) dealing prominently with psychological themes.
