According to the framework of the Medical Research Council (MRC) the evaluation of a complex intervention is subdivided into four phases: development, feasibility, evaluation, and implementation.
With respect to the HOMEfit-concept, the development process is as follows (see also associated
publications
):
Development
- Review of the literature
→ Situational analysis - Analysis of data obtained in a cohort of older primary care patients (getABI)
→ Investigation of general practitioners' counselling with regard to physical activity
Feasibility
- Performance of a feasibility study
→ Decision on whether to enter the evaluation phase
Evaluation
- Performance of a randomized controlled study
→ Examination of the effects of the programme on functional parameters, clinical endpoints and cost-effectiveness
Implementation
- Performance of an implementation study
→ Examination of the integration of the HOMEfit-concept into primary care
