SFB 874
Integration and Representation of Sensory Processes
In May 2010, the German Research Society (DFG) granted the SFB 874 „Integration and Representation of Sensory Processes“, along with two other applications from different research areas within the Ruhr University Bochum, thereby considerably strengthening the Neurosciences at the RUB.
The perception of our environment is rooted in a complex interplay of smell, hearing, taste, vision, and sense of touch. All modalities are combined into an integrated representation of the world, which partly becomes consolidated into memory. In the next years, 13 research teams at the RUB will investigate how sensorial information of the different modalities is unified and how this information can be translated into memory.
klinische-neuropsychologiechologists of the Department of klinische-neuropsychologiechology (Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience) study the role of the medial temporal lobe in memory and perception and how sensory experiences influence the organization of semantic memory.
