Venue

The venue of the conference will be the Hotel Grand Bahia Principe San Juan, which is located about 7 km west of the town of Rio San Juan on the north coast. Accommodation during the conference and during all field-trips will be at this hotel, which features all-inclusive services. The closest airport is Puerto Plata, also located on the north coast, about a 1½ hour drive away. The hotel can also be reached via other international airports (notably Santo Domingo and Samaná). European attendees can depart from their home airport and continue either via Frankfurt or Düsseldorf in Germany or via airports in the US or Canada (e.g., New York, Washington DC, Miami, Toronto). We are cooperating with a German travel agency that has been informed of the schedule of our meeting. If you have any inquiries with respect to your flight (for instance regarding a special “flight package” for attendees from Asia flying westward via Germany) or if you would like to do a booking, we suggest that you contact Mrs. Weiner (Altenessener Reisebüro, Altenessener Str. 411, 45329 Essen, Germany). Most attendees should be able to enter the Dominican Republic with only a tourist card (US$10) that can be purchased at the airport when you arrive; a valid passport is of course required. Residents of some countries do not even require the tourist card, whereas others, such as from China, will need a visa. Please indicate on the registration form if you need an invitation letter in order to collect your visa; this is important especially for our colleagues from China (see also: http://consulate-info.com/consulate/23735/). You will then receive an official invitation letter via the National Geological Survey of Dominican Republic and Sociedad Dominicana de Geología (SODOGEO). In any case, all attendees should check the necessary requirements for THEIR country as soon as possible, because we cannot assume this responsibility.
