WP1 aims to stablish electric field controlled self-replication of SCP-DNAs in the absence of enzymes, using one or more of three methods:
1. via local concentration monitoring using micro-electrode arrays.
Non-enzymatic replication of DNA is strongly sensitive to concentration effects (e.g. parabolic kinetics), which have proven to be controllable via electric fields.

2. via pH sensitive hybridization and ligation rates
Electrochemistry will also be employed to couple chemical replication with electronic signals using reversible cyclic modulation of pH by local electrolysis or electrochemical redox chemistry.
3. via direct electronic activation via redox reagents of bond ligation (cf WP3)
