Open Access for Students

Your free access to science!

Open Access describes free access to scientific publications on the Internet. Despite the special relevance for students, many of them are not yet familiar with the topic. They often use Open Access publications without even realizing it. They thus benefit from the free access that is offered to them through Open Access.

Also, many are not yet aware of the publication options in Open Access, which are specifically available to students as well. The results of student research are published in two journals on the publication platform Open Journal Systems RUB (GA2 & MARE NOSTRUM) and theses (especially dissertations) can be published via the RUB Repository. Here you can find more information about publishing with the RUB.

What is Open Access?

Open Access stands for free and unrestricted access to scientific publications on the Internet. According to the definition of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities, authors and right holders grant all users the irrevocable right to read, download and use scientific documents.

The additional granting of CC-licenses can ensure the legally compliant re- use of documents and regulate duplication, further distribution and further use.
