Monographs Publication Fund

Since 01.01.2024, a fund for the financial support of open access books has also been available at the RUB. Until the annual fund budget is exhausted, the following funding requirements apply:

Scope of funding

  • RUB members are eligible to apply as authors or editors of open access books.
  • First publications of open access monographs and edited volumes are eligible for funding.
  • Funding is limited to one book publication per person per year.
  • The upper cost limit for funding is 4,500 € (gross).
  • RUB Dissertations published in a publishing house are also eligible for funding. Funding is currently limited to one dissertation per faculty per year and can be applied for on the recommendation of the reviewers. Please contact the OA-Team in any case.
  • Only costs for a direct open access publication will be covered (no printing cost subsidies). The selected publisher should submit a cost calculation that is as transparent as possible, including the open access services.
  • Authors who publish results from third-party funded projects are obliged to check whether the publication costs can be paid from third-party funds provided for this purpose (e.g. ERC) and to exhaust these funds.
  • A funding commitment is initially valid for a period of 12 months.

Funded publication

  • There must be a professionally recognized quality assurance procedure (e.g. peer review, series editors, review process, scientific editing, etc.). Listing in the DOAB is an advantage.
  • An open access-compliant license is used, CC BY or CC BY-SA is recommended. You can find more information here.
  • The publication is given a persistent identifier (DOI or URN).
  • The information on the license used and the persistent identifier are listed in the imprint of the online and print edition, as well as a reference to funding by the RUB Publication Fund.
  • Long-term archiving of the publication must be guaranteed, usually via the German National Library.
  • Orientation towards the quality standards for open access books of the AG Universitätsverlage is recommended.
  • The publication will be made available on the RUB-Repository.
