Declaration against the threat to Iranian cultural heritage
The German Mining Museum Bochum and the Institute of Archaeological Studies of the Ruhr-University Bochum have been successfully and trustfully collaborating with culturally engaged professionals, conservators and archaeologists for decades. The cultural and archaeological heritage of Iran is an important heritage and part of the cultural memory of humankind. Furthermore, an attack of civilian cultural heritage sites sets into danger the civilian population. The destruction of cultural heritage and attacks on civilians violate articles 51 - 53 of the Geneva Convention. Such threats are inacceptable for us, regardless of the political viewpoint. The Institute of Archaeological Studies turns with vehemence against the declaration made by the U.S. supreme commander.
