Das Team beschäftigt sich in erster Linie mit Fragestellungen der Grundlagenforschung, die sich langfristig auch der translationalen, biomedizinischen und biotechnologischen Forschung zuordnen lassen. Wir sind an den molekularen Grundlagen des zentralen Nervensystems interessiert. Der Schwerpunkt unserer Forschung liegt auf Untersuchungen zur Entwicklung sensorischer Systeme und ihrer Erkrankungen. Wir möchten verstehen, wie sich das visuelle und auditive System sowie die zentrale Schaltstelle, das Gehirn, entwickeln. Weiterhin möchten wir nachvollziehen, was passiert, wenn diese sensorischen Systeme Schaden nehmen, im Rahmen von neurodegenerativen Prozessen und Erkrankungen. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Remodellierung von Proteinen der extrazellulären Matrix und ihren Signalisierungswegen sowie ihrer Rolle bei der De- und Regeneration. Das Projekt umfasst histologische, molekularbiologische, proteinbiochemische und biotechnologische Methoden, bildgebende und funktionelle Untersuchungsverfahren, Verhaltensanalysen sowie die Untersuchung transgener Tiermodelle und diverser Tumorzelllinien.
