Mississippi Masala (1991) - Romance/Drama/Comedy
This film is set in Uganda and the USA. It demonstrates the hardships foreigners endured during the military rule of dictator Idi Amin. The film shows how an Indian family is expelled from Uganda and finds refuge in the USA. In Mississippi, the Indian daughter falls in love with a black man, and their respective families have to come to terms with that. Indian English and African American English are mainly spoken, but the dialogues also illustrate some aspects of Ugandan English.
The Last King of Scotland (2006) - Biography/Drama/History
This film is based on the events of brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin's regime as witnessed by his personal physician Nicholas Garrigan during the 1970s. This film gives you the opportunity to listen to many different varieties of English, particularly Ugandan English and Scottish English. Forest Whitaker, however, is an African American.
