The 3rd Schematic Mapping Workshop will be held April 21 – 22, 2022 at Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, after successful editions in 2019 at TU Vienna, Austria and in 2014 at the University of Essex, UK. This workshop brings together researchers and practitioners working on various aspects of schematic maps, including cartographers, computer scientists, graphic designers, psychologists, and transport professionals.
The workshop will take place April 21 – 22, 2022.
The two-day workshop program will feature presentations of contributed original research papers as well as a number of invited position papers surveying the state of the art on all aspects of schematic mapping.
Subject areas include, but are not restricted to:
We solicit three types of contributions to the workshop program:
Regular papers are intended for presenting original research. Research posters are intended for those summarizing current projects or new techniques at an early stage of development. New map designs are intended for those submitting fresh alternatives to current (official) schematic maps, or new applications of the transit map metaphor. All submissions will undergo a peer-review process and accepted contributions are made available electronically as a collection of preprints for the benefit of the community. Results presented at the Schematic Mapping Workshop are expected to appear later in other conferences with formal proceedings and/or in journals.
The program will also contain position papers giving state-of-the-art overviews, or intended to form the basis of discussion. These will be invited by the workshop chairs, but proposals for these are welcome. Please contact the submissions@schematicmapping.org with a summary of your proposed position paper topic before proceeding.
All submissions must be formatted using the IEEE conference format. Templates are available here both for LaTeX and for Microsoft Word. Submissions are accepted as PDF files only. The workshop proceedings will be published as a collection of preprints.
All submissions are handled through EasyChair here.
The workshop will be held in Bochum, Germany.
