My main research focus
is on the neural correlates of human working memory. Based on
the model by Baddeley and Hitch (1974), working memory consists
of a central control unit, the central executive and two semi-independent
subsystems (the visual spatial sketchpad and the phonological
loop). My main interests are the neural correlates of the central
executive which is linked to the prefrontal cortex. Another
focus of interest is the interaction between the subsystems.
What are the neural correlates of this interaction? How do they
interact?
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalogram
(EEG) are used to investigate these research. While EEG provides
a good temporal resolution, fMRI provides a good spatial resolution.
