Quedlinburg 2006
The IGSN trip to Quedlinburg took place in December 2006. We left Bochum by coach on a Friday evening and in four hours we reached the youth hostel in Thale (a small town next to Quedlinburg.) Only in the morning could we recognise how beautiful the surroundings were - the Thale youth hostel is at the entrance of the Bodetal valley between the rocky gulches of the "Hexentanzplatz" and the "Roßtrappe". It is a good starting point for hiking trips and excursions.
First of all however, we went to Quedlinburg. It was that time of year for the “Weihnachtsmärkte” – special Christmas markets in Germany. There is one of the best Christmas markets in Quedlinburg and we were pleased to visit it and to taste delicious mulled wine with cinnamon and sweet pastries.
Afterwards we climbed the neighbouring monastery hill, where we enjoyed the view over the town and the castle, not to mention
the hilltop scenery crowded with small half-timbered houses.
On the next day we had a very interesting excursion and found out a lot about the history of the town.
We had lots of fun together and enjoyed the beautiful nature and nice places in and around Quedlinburg.
