We are excited to announce the publication of the first research paper from our project "Coverage, repulsion, and reactivity of hydrogen on High-Entropy alloys".This study determines hydrogen coverage based on ligand effects and generalized hydrogen-hydrogen repulsion. Authored by the research group led by Prof. Jan Rossmeisl, the paper shows that high-entropy alloys exhibit higher hydrogen-hydrogen repulsion compared to pure metals, which affects the efficiency of hydrogen production.

Today marked our first colloquium with Serhiy Cherevko and Wolfgang Schuhmann as featured speakers. With about 30 attendees in person and 30 online, the event was a great success. Serhiy, who collaborates with the PIs of the CRC on various projects, delivered a fascinating talk on the stability of compositional complex solid solutions, offering deep insights into stability mechanisms. Wolfgang captivated us with his presentation on the benefits of long-range SECCM for electrochemical analysis. Afterward, we enjoyed a lively discussion and had the pleasure of touring the lab with Serhiy and his PhD student, Joanna Przybysz.

The first international workshop of the CRC1625 was a great success. The focus was on "Designing the Future of Electrocatalysis with Compositionally Complex Solid Solutions." The hybrid format enabled an inspiring exchange of ideas and intensive networking with researchers from all over the world. This collaborative event strengthened global connections in the field and demonstrated how interdisciplinary the topic is. We are thankful to all those who attended and contributed to making this workshop a wonderful exchange of ideas.

Our recent three-day CRC retreat in Raesfeld proved to be an invaluable experience, combining deep collaboration with a tranquil environment. We had the opportunity to exchange ideas and engage intensively on our joint projects, making significant progress and gaining new perspectives. Outside of the working sessions, we enjoyed a refreshing walk through the countryside in Raesfeld. The time spent together strengthened our collaboration and set a promising course for our upcoming research initiatives.

The 2nd colloquium on surface segregation of alloys provided was focused on an important part of the CRC1625: surface segregation. With Prof. Andrew Gellman (Carnegie Mellon University) as well as Prof. Ralf Drautz and Dr. Yanyan Liang (Ruhr University Bochum), the colloquium offered deep insights into the experimental observation of metal surfaces and the atomic modelling of surface segregation. Prof Gellman’s expertise in surface science and the CRC1625 team’s work in simulation opened doors for future partnerships and complemented each other with new information.
