Graduation Day 2018

On December 7th, 2018, researchers and staff, as well as friends and family came together on Graduation Day to honour this year's graduates, which had completed the IGSN programme and would finally receive their PhDs in Neuroscience.

Talks and Poster Session

The festivities were begun by the warm welcome of the new speaker of the IGSN Prof. Dr. Oliver T. Wolf. As is the tradition, current IGSN PhD researchers presented their work to the audience. Their presentations illustrated the high standard of work being done at the IGSN and the diversity of topics tackled by young scientists. Thank you, Laura Berg, Marion Brickwedde, Hanna Kruse, and Anika Pützer for your excellent talks – great job!

IGSN Poster Prize

This year the IGSN awarded for the second time a poster prize for the best poster of a doctoral researcher. A jury of young researchers took over the task to find the best IGSN poster. All PhD researchers presented their projects to the jury in a three minutes presentation and answered the questions of the jury members. The 2018 Poster Prize went to Ms Stephanie Lor from the department of Biopsychology for her poster "The miR-183/-96/-182 cluster – a key player in the ontogeny of neuronal asymmetries?".

Winners of IGSN school competition received prizes

At the beginning of the graduation ceremony, the winners of this year's IGSN and SFB 874 painting competition received their prizes from the hands of IGSN Dean and Director Prof. Dr. Denise Manahan-Vaughan and the Vice-Rector of the Ruhr-Universität Prof. Andreas Ostendorf. The 2018 contest was entitled "Gefühlsdetektive – Spurensuche im Kopf" (Detectives of emotions in search of clues). Pupils from Bochum's primary schools had entered 250 excellent works.

Then it was finally time for the graduates to take centre stage. Dressed in traditional IGSN mortar boards and gowns they received their much-desired PhD diplomas. Each graduate was honoured in personal speeches by their supervisors. Nine graduates received their PhDs this year. The IGSN is so very proud of all of you — we wish you all the best for the future!

Thank you to everyone who made this day such a wonderful occasion!
