On 1st of March 2007, a research project on European Works Council: A transnational Organization? funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), started at the Chair of Sociology/Organization, Migration, Participation.
The second phase of the project has begun on April 1st 2009. The field of research has now been extended to include additional OEM-manufacturers: Toyota and Honda.
The aim of the project is to establish a typology of European Works Councils (EWCs), to find out the structural conditions for their work and to analyse the results of negotiations between European Works Councils and Managements in selected companies in the European automotive industry in five countries (France, Germany, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom).
