Bernstein Node Bochum
Computational Neuroscience (CNS) uses quantitative methods to describe what nervous systems do, study how they function, and explain the underlying principles. The Bernstein Node Bochum brings together groups whose research approaches include methods from CNS. It is part of the Bernstein Network Computational Neuroscience and provides a focused platform for CNS research coordination, method development, and collaborative advancement of the field. Regular personal interaction within the Node will be maintained through recurring scientific and networking events, joint outreach events, joint teaching initiatives in CNS-related courses, mutual supervision of Bachelor, Master, and doctoral students, and research collaborations.
The Bernstein Node Bochum is closely linked to the Institute of Neural Computation (Institut für Neuroinformatik, INI) that was an independent research institute from 1989-2021 and was incorporated into the newly founded Faculty of Computer Science in 2021. The Bernstein Node Bochum is furthermore affiliated with the Research Center for Theoretical and Integrative Neuroscience and Cognitive Science (THINK) that will be opened in 2026, as well as with the Research Department of Neuroscience.
